Training in sexology
Training in Sexology, besides being scarce, is very heterogeneous. It is not always easy to understand where to begin or which resources truly add value to clinical practice.
Here I've compiled some of the training courses I've completed and platforms I consult that I consider most interesting for healthcare professionals who want to deepen their knowledge in Sexual Medicine and Clinical Sexology.
Note: This selection is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all available training programs in Sexology. It brings together resources that I consider particularly useful due to their scientific quality, applicability in clinical practice, and diversity of content.
Intensive in-person training from the European Society for Sexual Medicine, aimed at professionals with a clinical interest in Sexual Medicine and Sexology. It is probably the most comprehensive and immersive training in this selection, consisting of 10 intensive days in Budapest. The program is multidisciplinary and focuses not only on acquiring theoretical knowledge but also on developing the practical skills necessary to assess and manage sexual health issues in clinical settings. The School is held annually, while the Advanced Course is held every two years.
It is an excellent option for those who want to invest seriously in this area, although it implies considerable availability and financial investment.
International online training platform in Sexology, with classes, clinical case discussions and supervision. It brings together dozens of international experts and allows for flexible learning at your own pace. IOSS also develops, in partnership with ESSM, the International Diploma in Clinical Sexology, which can be a good alternative for those who cannot attend intensive face-to-face training.
The variety of topics and, above all, the possibility of combining classes with case discussions and clinical supervision make the platform particularly interesting for those who have already started working in this area and want to consolidate their skills.
Online training platform of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, with a curriculum structured in Sexual Medicine and courses dedicated to different areas (female and male sexual dysfunctions, pain, desire, oncosexology, iatrogenesis, etc.).
It is an excellent resource for studying in an organized way and, above all, for returning to specific topics when a question arises in clinical practice.
A webinar program from the European Society for Sexual Medicine dedicated to specific and current topics in Sexual Medicine, featuring international experts.
One of the simplest ways to keep your knowledge up-to-date.
